LA한국문화원은 29일과 30일 양일간 컬버시티에 위치한 아크라이트 극장에서 김지운 감독을 초청하여 할리우드 외신기자협회(HFPA) 및 미국 영화예술과학아카데미(AMPAS) 회원들을 대상으로 영화 밀정의 특별상영회를 개최하였습니다.

On October 29th and 30th, the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles invited Director Jeewoon Kim to the Arclight Theater in Culver City and hosted a special screening of The Ages of Shadows for HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and AMPAS (The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) members.

제 89회 아카데미 시상식 외국어 영화부문 한국영화 출품작이자 제 74회 골든글로브 한국출품작인 영화 밀정의 상영 이전에는 한국 단편 애니메이션으로 오스카에 출품된 '사슴꽃'의 상영이 이루어졌는데요,  

The Age of Shadows was selected as the Korean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards and as the Korean film featured in the 74th Golden Globe Awards. Before the film was shown, the audience watched a short Korean animation film called “Deer Flower,” which is aspiring to become nominated in the Oscars.

밀정의 김지운, 사슴꽃의 김강민 두 감독이 참석한 가운데 미 주요 영화제 관계자들과 함께 Q&A 세션과 리셉션 디너를 통해 영화에 대해 더 이야기를 나눠볼 수 있는 시간을 가졌습니다.
During the special screening, Director Jeewoon Kim of “The Age of Shadows” and Director Kangmin Kim of “Deer Flower” had profound conversations through a Q&A session and a reception dinner with many film festival officials.

[Q&A답변:김지운 감독]
스파이 영화를 만들고 싶었었고, 스파이 영화를 만들려면, 일본강점기 시대, 1920년대를 배경으로 하면 좋겠다 싶었었고,
대화만을 가지고 긴장감을 유지시킬 수 있는 방법은 뭘까 이런 것들을 좀 많이 신경을 썼어요. 그래서 액션을 많이 줄이고.
I wanted to produce a spy movie, and in order to do that, I figured it would be best if the movie was set in the 1920s during the Japanese Occupation Era. I had to really think hard about how to preserve the intensity just with dialogues. So, I took out a lot of action scenes…

현장에서는 영화에 대한 제작 배경에서부터 감독의 작업 방식과 영화의 역사적 사실까지  다양한 이야기가 오고 갔습니다.
Talks about the production background of the film, director’s work methods, and the historical setting of the film were all part of this fascinating night.

정말 엄청나게 세계적으로 큰 영화제이기 때문에
또 준비하는 것 자체만으로도 너무나도 영광스럽고
정말 독특한 한국작품. 우리가 이런 것도 만든다라는 것을 좀 사람들에게 알릴 수 있는 정말 좋은 기회가 될 수 있기 때문에 좋은 결과가 있으면 좋겠습니다.
As this is a world-renowned film festival, I am honored to just be a part of the production. This is a great opportunity for us to show the world that we make these kinds of unique and peculiar type of film. I’m just hoping for the best.

이번 상영회는 CJ와 함께 '아시안월드 영화제' 속 또 하나의 영화제로 기획된 '코리안 필름 데이즈'의 일환으로 이를 통해 한국 영화를 집중 소개하는 시간을 가질 수 있었습니다.
This screening served as part of the “Korean Film Days,” a film festival within the “Asian World Film Festival” from Korean cultural center LA and CJ, and through this opportunity, we were able to introduce Korean films in depth. ?
